Safe States is excited to launch a new webinar series to provide space for deeper exploration of the recently released “Building Equity into Safer States” resource, a tool designed to help injury and violence prevention (IVP) organizations integrate health equity across the core components of a model IVP program. Developed for IVP professionals, funders, advocates, and diverse partners, this resource can be used to enhance and strengthen health equity leadership, partnerships, programs, and more.
This six-part webinar series will provide a space for deeper exploration of the “Building Equity into Safer States” resource, share real-life examples, and discuss the standards and indicators for a model IVP program.
Webinar 1: What Does Health Equity Look Like on the Federal Level?

Join health equity officers from the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) to learn how NCIPC is incorporating health equity into their organizational structure. Officers will share NCIPC’s Diversity, Equity Belong, Inclusion, Accessibility (DEBIA) strategic plan and investments in implementation efforts.

Webinar 2: Global Diversity Equity and Inclusion Benchmarks
October 16, 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET
Next up in the series, learn about the Global Diversity Equity and Inclusion Benchmarks (GDEIB) and how they can apply to your IVP efforts. Alan Richter, co-author of the GDEIB, will share information about using this tool to advance health equity. The GDEIB is a free resource for organizations worldwide that provides a strategic planning tool, a set of actions, and measures for progress toward diversity, equity, and inclusion. Organized into 15 categories across 4 groups, these benchmarks can apply to all sectors, sizes, and types of organizations. As referenced in “Building Equity Into Safer States,” the GDEIB can be used to build and sustain a solid, equitable, and stable infrastructure by providing actionable steps that IVP organizations can take to ensure equity is embedded in its goals, core values, leadership, and accountability.

Webinar 3: Building Equity Through Data Collection, Analysis and Dissemination

In this webinar, presenters will share and discuss examples of initiatives that strengthen protective factors and reduce risk factors for injury and violence prevention. Participants will explore a tool that helps injury and violence prevention professionals ground resource allocation decisions in community input, scientific literature, and culturally specific strategies. Also considerations on how this tool might be adapted and adopted regularly in resource allocation decision making will be discussed.

Webinar 4: Embedding Equity into Hospital-Based Injury and Violence Prevention Programming

Hospital-based injury and violence prevention programs have a unique space within the IVP world. Given the diverse populations served, centering programs around equity are crucial to ensuring IVP programs are reaching their target audiences. Embedding Equity into Hospital-Based Injury and Violence Prevention Programming will illustrate how equity has been incorporated into each of the IVP core components at a Level 1 Trauma Center by examining data sources, community partnerships, organizational structure, and identifying challenges and barriers.

Webinar 5: Building Equity in Firearm Injury Prevention Efforts Through Equitable Collaboration and Communication
