Overview:
This Student Showcase features presentations from two Safe States’ student members – Michael Van Skiba and Victor Soupene.
Michael Van Skiba – a student attending Saint Catherine University for his Masters of Public Health in Global Health. He currently works as an EMT in the clinical setting and is passionate about health equity and social justice. His presentation will be on “Community Health Agents Advancing Women’s Empowerment and Changing Gender Norms”
Victor Soupene – a PhD student in the department of epidemiology at the University of Iowa and an occupational injury prevention trainee at the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety. His research mainly focuses on the causes of agricultural injury, suicide, and other rural health-related issues. His presentation today will be on “Circumstances contributing to Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Worker Death by Suicide”
