Advancing Equity through Cross-Sector Collaboration (No More Under)

In August 2018, No More Under’s Founder and Executive Director, Chezik Tsunoda, lost the third of her four boys, Yori, to a drowning accident in a backyard pool. Yori’s legacy lives on through No More Under’s work. The mission of No More Under (NMU)is to save lives. A black-led nonprofit, NMU is dedicated to drowning prevention through water safety education, legislation, and increasing equitable access to swimming lessons and tools. Their work consists of three focus areas: swimming lessons, life jackets, and water safety awareness. With seed grant funding from the Safe States Alliance, No More Under ran a learn-to-swim program by teaming up with community partners that serve underserved youth and their families. Working with YMCAs, school districts, high schools, universities, many non-profit BIPOC-serving nonprofits, and low-income housing to promote free swim lessons, they have demonstrated the importance of cross-sector collaboration. With this grant, No More Under provided nearly 200 youth with life-saving swim lessons
